    After UIAA GA: Open meeting "Proposal for a European Union of Mountaineering Associations"

    The meeting was coordinated by the CAI President. During the discussions, there developed the idea of working together, in a close relationship with the UIAA and the CAA, to explore the possibility of a common form of coordination and promotion of the initiative. The consensus obtained was nearly unanimous and gave birth to a work group in support of the project.

    After GA UIAA: Initiative Mountains of Europe

    There was not enough support for establishing a European mountaineering association as a continental organization under the umbrella of the UIAA, but the vast majority of participants supported the proposal to start cooperating more intensively towards the EU. A dedicated working group of the European mountain forum was set up to prepare a special letter to European associations, to publish a special web page and to prepare the next meeting in October 2012.

    EU mountaineering forum letter

    The working group of the European mountain forum sent a letter to 58 recipients to establish an informal and independent body called “EU mountaineering forum” without any membership dues that is open for mountaineering associations only, and asked for written statements of support.

    During the final part of the GA, the DAV president proposed to create a new European body to strengthen the position of mountaineering associations in relationship to the EU. Directly after the GA, a special meeting was held where no action plan was adopted. This was the last activity of the EU mountaineering forum.

    Start of Erasmus+ project: Climbing for everybody (finished on 31.12.2018)

    The main project objective was to encourage people of all ages and especially young ones to take active part in sport activities related to climbing and all kinds of mountain sports. The project showed that mountain and climbing sports are not reserved to selected extreme climbers.

    UIAA GA: Lunch Break Meeting with European UIAA member federations

    All UIAA federations were invited to an open discussion related to the topic of the creation of a European mountaineering federation. The general opinion was to move forward with respect to all parties and continue with open communication. An open invitation was given to attend the formation of the EUMA. The general feeling was that the efforts of the EUMA were appreciated, and that they may in the future be able to help support the views of the EU members; for this reason, it was important for EU members to attend the meeting to be able to express and vote on their views.
