We Present Our Members

It is with great honor that we introduce our new project, "We Present Our Members" where we shine a spotlight on our members! As the name suggests, this initiative will share the inspiring stories, achievements, and projects of our community. You can find these features on our website, as well as on our Instagram and Facebook pages (so make sure to follow us if you haven’t yet!).

Mountaineering Ireland

For our first feature, we are delighted to introduce Mountaineering Ireland. Our Secretary-General, Andreas Aschaber, recently had the opportunity to meet with Liam Feeley, the CEO of Mountaineering Ireland, and Helen Lawless, their Access & Conservation Officer. From Andreas: “It was a pleasure to meet with Liam and Helen, and together we hiked up Croagh Patrick, where they have developed a sustainable trail management project—a true model for preserving heavily used trails.”

From right to left we have Helen Lawless, the Access & Conservation Officer; Andreas Aschaber, the Secretary-General; and Liam Feeley, the CEO of Mountaineering Ireland.

When asked, "Why did you decide to join EUMA?" Liam answered:

EUMA's values—environmental protection, volunteerism, responsible enjoyment of the mountains, and cooperation—align closely with those of Mountaineering Ireland, providing a strong foundation for a successful partnership. Mountaineering Ireland is excited to join this larger movement, which includes nearly 3.5 million members committed to promoting responsible mountaineering. Listening to Andreas Aschaber at the Europarc Sustainable Tourism conference in Ireland in October 2024, I felt immense pride as Mountaineering Ireland became the newest member of EUMA, the European Mountaineering Association.
